Lighthouse Tour of Portland

This past weekend, Warren took me to three of the lighthouses in the Portland/Cape Elizabeth area to take some photos. We started out at Two Lights, then headed over to Portland Head and lastly, went onto the SMCC campus to see Bug Light. Unfortunately, my battery died after I took two shots of Bug Light and it was too cold to walk back to the truck to replace it, but I think that my last shot is my favorite. Nothing special about the camera settings this time, just a photo that leads your eye up to the subject.

Haven't Posted in a While...

So I thought that since I haven't posted in a while (I actually haven't taken any photos recently) that I'd post one of the first pictures that I took with my camera the second weekend in October.

This is of the train trellis that stretches between Bangor and Brewer. I actually crawled under the Broadway bridge in order to get this shot. A lot of people remark that it's their favorite out of my portfolio thus far, but I'm partial to the black and white photo in my first post.

Comments are welcome. The photo was taken at the peak of fall with my Digital Canon Rebel xTi.

Portland Head Light - 12-30

So Jenni and I did some photo taking around the Old Port area on the Friday afternoon of December 30th. We got a late start since we'd done so many things before we made it to the Old Port, so a lot of the photos that we took along shore came out very shady. I don't think that I'd prefer to shoot an hour before sunset again...too dark and way too many shadows. It's a good lesson, though. I might spend some time trying to Photoshop some of the images to see if I can fix any of them. There's some potential there if I spend the time.

At about 3:45, we headed over the bridge to Cape Elizabeth to search out Fort Williams and Portland Head Light. Remember, we're in Maine, so the sun sets between 4:10 and 4:15. We had good timing, but unfortunately, the sun wasn't setting behind the lighthouse (which would have been quite the money shot), but a full 180 degrees from the lighthouse. That's ok, though, because the sky was still picking up some color.
My only wish about going here is that I would've had more desire to take photos. It was SO cold at this time of the day and the wind was ripping, that it was hard for the two of us to stay there for very long...I think we maxed out at 20 minutes. I've attached my favorite photo, which is one of the first ones that I took when we parked. I might try to work on this one too and lighten up around the fence a little so that it pops a little more.
Comments and suggestions are welcome!
